Trekking Machuca - Rio Grande
 |
This tour starts around 8:00 a.m.
We will begin to go to the village of Machuca, inside the Andes Cordillera, in 4.000 meters in height. This traditional village, lost in the mountain, will be our starting point.
All the trekking is a descent inside and on the heights of impressive quebradas (canyons), full of giant cactus. Our walk will make us travel from the Cordillera of Andes to the Cordillera of Domeyko, as the Atacama indian Shepherds used to travel inside the mountains.
During our trip, maybe we will meet some lamas, various species of birds, and if we are lucky we will see some viscachas enjoying the sun of the middle day.
|
Halfway, we will stop at a ghost village to eat our picnic on the terrace of a traditional house built with volcanic stones, cob, cactus wood and straw.
At the end of our trekking, agricultural terraces of Rio Grande inhabitants will appear (3.200 meters in height). Plants and animals are occupying both banks of the river. Finally, we will enter the centre of the village, to rest in the shadow of the algarrobo tree in the patio of the Andean church of Rio Grande.
